Why is Mira wrapped in bandages?
Mira is tightly wrapped in bandages that are thousands of meters long. Egyptians believed that if the body was preserved, the soul could return to the afterlife, so they made mummies to preserve the body. The word "mummy" is derived from the name of the preservative used on the body, called "mira." From the Middle Ages to the 18th century, the "mira" used on Egyptian mummies was known for its exceptional ability to relieve pain and strengthen the body, and was sold around the world.
To ensure that the mummy could resume daily life if it were to come back to life, Egyptians also built tombs. Pyramids are the tombs of Egyptian kings, or pharaohs. There are more than 90 pyramids in Egypt's barren desert. These giant pyramids were built by stacking over 2.3 million large stones.
Although Egypt is most widely known for its mummies, the technology to make mummies was not exclusive to Egypt. Mummies were also found in the ancient Inca Empire in what is now Peru, as well as in ancient China.
In Korea, the discovery of the great-granddaughter of Queen Moonjeong in a mummified state also became a topic of discussion.
