Is it true that Santa Claus actually lives there?
In his loose red clothes, with a white beard, riding a sled pulled by reindeer, Santa Claus flies through the sky during Christmas! Everyone has probably wished to receive a gift from Santa Claus at least once in their childhood, and some may even remember being disappointed to find out that he wasn't real. But there's no need to be too disappointed, as the real Santa Claus actually lives in Finland...
The person who modeled Santa Claus was a man named Saint Nicholas, who lived in the 4th century and carried gifts in his pocket to give to children. This story evolved into a Dutch tradition of giving gifts to children on their celebration day on December 6th, and from there, Santa Claus was born.
Ever since, many children around the world have written letters to Santa Claus every year during Christmas. When the letters piled up, Finland created a real Santa Claus Village in Rovaniemi in Lapland Province.
In this village, a grandfather dressed as Santa Claus sits in his office and reads the letters sent by children from all over the world. He even writes replies to the letters and, if a child wants to meet Santa Claus, they can receive a gift directly from him.
If you want to write a letter to Santa Claus, you can send it to this address:
MR. SANTACLAUS ROVANIEMI FINLAND.
