Do British gentlemen not wear underwear?

At one time, the UK was called the "country on which the sun never sets". That's how influential the country was throughout the world. It's also famous for being the first country in the world to experience the Industrial Revolution, and for producing numerous artists, including Shakespeare.

Above all, the UK is known as a country of gentlemen.

However, it is said that gentlemen in the 18th and 19th centuries did not wear underwear, specifically pants.

Why would gentlemen who valued manners and elegance refuse to wear underwear?

It was to avoid creating a bulge in their suit pants.

At the time, there were no thin panties like today, only very thick underwear.

So the fashionable men in the UK didn't wear underwear at all.

Old British soldiers used to wear skirts that went down to their knees. But soldiers didn't wear pants either. It's really funny that a soldier wearing a fancy uniform with a hat didn't wear pants.

Even today, some British people who insist on traditional costumes don't wear pants.

Instead, British gentlemen who don't wear pants make their shirts longer to cover the front and back.

That's why traditional British tailors still adjust their shirts longer than regular shirts when fitting clothes.
