80 years old is considered young?
The Smolyan region of Bulgaria is known for having many centenarians (people over 100 years old).
After meals, the locals always drink yogurt, which is known to have a positive effect on the balance of bacteria in the intestines, leading to longevity.
The Nobel Prize-winning biologist, Metchnikoff, said in his paper, "The Prolongation of Life," that "eating yogurt with probiotics can help one live a healthy life until the age of 150 or more."
This is why yogurt has become well-known worldwide.
Within a week of being born, a human's intestines begin to host many different types of bacteria, with over 100 species present. Among them are both beneficial and harmful bacteria.
One of the necessary bacteria for the intestine is probiotics, which is abundant in yogurt.
However, probiotics are not only found in yogurt. There are over hundreds of different types of probiotics, which can also be found in fermented foods such as kimchi and soybean paste. On the other hand, some probiotics can cause tooth decay.
Although the mystery of probiotics has not been fully revealed, Bulgaria is still known as a country of longevity.
