Did they really compete naked in the Olympics?
The ancient Olympic Games began in 776 BC, with the first official Games held in Olympia, Greece. The Games were held every four years.
One month before the start of the Games, a truce was declared across all Greek cities to prevent any fighting during the competitions and ensure the safety of spectators.
In the ancient Olympic Games, only Greek men were allowed to participate. Slaves and women were not allowed to compete, and non-Greek men were only allowed to watch.
During the ancient Olympics, all athletes competed naked, and spectators also watched the games in the nude. Women were not even allowed to come close to the stadiums during the games, and if caught peeking, they would face punishment.
The winner of each event was awarded a wreath of olive leaves and a gold-handled sickle. They were also allowed to build a statue of themselves in the sanctuary of Olympia, which was considered the greatest honor of the time.
